Wuthering Heights

Characters

  • Heathcliff: Found, presumably orphaned, on the streets of Liverpool and taken to Wuthering Heights by Mr Earnshaw where he is reluctantly cared for by the family. He and Catherine grow close and their love is the central theme of the first volume. His revenge against the man she chooses to marry and its consequences are the central theme of the second volume. Heathcliff has been considered a Byronic hero, but critics have pointed out that he re-invents himself at various points, making his character hard to fit into any single "type." Because of his ambiguous position in society and his lack of status — underlined by the fact that "Heathcliff" is his given name; he has no surname — his character has been a favourite subject of Marxist criticism.
  • Cathy Earnshaw: First introduced to the reader after her death, through Lockwood's discovery of her diary and carvings. The description of her life is confined almost entirely to the first volume. She seems unsure whether she is — or wants to become — more like Heathcliff, or more like Edgar. It is as if she wants both, even perhaps cannot be fully herself without both, and yet society or human nature makes that impossible. Some critics have argued that her decision to marry Edgar Linton is allegorically a rejection of nature and a surrender to culture — a choice with fateful consequences for all the other characters. Literary critics have examined her character through many different lenses, including those of psychoanalytic theory and feminist theory.

Hermoso Mensaje!

Low Calorie Avocado Smoothie recipe

170 calories per serving. This recipe contains 3 servings.

Ingredients:
  • 1 whole avocado
  • 1 cup skim milk (low- or reduced-fat okay)
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsps sugar (I use Stevia)

Directions:
  1. Put all ingredients into a blender.
  2. First pulse blender to aid in crushing the ice well.
  3. Blend until a smooth consistency.
  4. Taste to see if it is sweet enough. Depending on the size of the avocado, you may need more.
  5. Pour into cups and enjoy promptly. This recipe is best not left sitting because of the ice and the avocado.

Mexican Grilled Corn recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 ears corn
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 1/4 cup freshly chopped cilantro leaves
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • Red chili powder, to taste
  • 2 limes cut into wedges, for garnish

Directions
Remove the husks of the corn but leave the core attached at the end so you have something to hold onto. Grill the corn on a hot grill or cast iron griddle pan until slightly charred. Turn it so it gets cooked evenly all over. Mix the mayonnaise, sour cream and cilantro together. Grate the Parmesan in another bowl. While the corn is still warm slather with mayonnaise mix. Squeeze lime juice over the corn and shower with Parmesan. Season with chili powder and serve with extra lime wedges.

Mango frozen yogurt recipe

Ingredients:
  • 2 (32-ounce) containers whole milk plain yogurt
  • 2 cups chopped ripe mangoes (about 2 medium mangoes)
  • 1 to 1 1/4 cups super fine sugar, plus 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups freshly whipped cream

Directions:
  1. Place the yogurt in a large fine mesh strainer or colander lined with cheesecloth set over a large bowl.
  2. Refrigerate and let drain overnight. Discard the whey that has dropped into the bowl or reserve for another use.
  3. In a blender, puree the mangos and 1 cup of the sugar. Taste and adjust sweetness, depending upon the ripeness of the fruit, adding more sugar as needed.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the yogurt cheese, pureed mangoes, and vanilla. Refrigerate until well chilled, about 2 hours.
  5. Fold in the whipped cream. Transfer to an airtight container and freeze until ready to use.

Homemade Frozen Yogurt recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups yogurt (I used low fat yogurt, but other recipes call for Greek-style or whole milk yogurt)
  • 1/3 cup sugar

Directions without an ice-cream maker:

1) Using a large fine-mesh strainer over a large bowl, pour 6 cups of yogurt into the strainer. This will make approx. 3 cups of strained yogurt.

2) Cover top of bowl with plastic wrap, set in refrigerator for 2 hours as it drains.

3) Take out of fridge, discard water. Mix yogurt and sugar together. Refrigerate for 1 hour.

4) Take out of fridge, stir, put into freezer for 45 minutes. Take out, stir, put back into freezer for 30 minutes. Keep doing this in 30 minute increments until it is the consistency of firm frozen yogurt. Serve immediately, or store in airtight containers.

United Nations Youth Assembly

I am from Ecuador and have seen how big transnational oil companies have polluted the rivers of the rainforest in Ecuador. Also, how the emission of CO2 have affected our planet with air pollution and global warming. I am environmentally focused and would like to advocate for environmental sustainability.

What would you like to accomplish while there?
To learn, become involved and promote development and humanitarian initiatives. I want to participate in the United Nations programs and contribute with new ideas to improve the world we live in.

What do you hope to gain from the experience?
I hope to gain knowledge of different topics and learn about the challenges that different countries are facing. I want to learn to develop good arguments to use in diplomatic debates. I want to do networking and hopefully work in the United Nations one day.

What do you plan to do with this when you return to your home country?
I want to work in the Ecuadorian government and help to create laws that would protect the environment. I want to put a recycling company in the main cities of Ecuador and convert the waste into energy, to create a self-sustainable country.

What do you bring to the table?
My school and work experience in New York and Ecuador. My leadership, language and business skills. A winning business plan that I developed for a contest in the State University of New York focused on environmental sustainability and economics. Also, my social experience helping migrants living in New York and working in the Consulate of Ecuador in NY.

My January quote 2014

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.

And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.”

Why do I want a global customer service role at Bloomberg?

I want a role in customer service because I want to be the image of Bloomberg; I want to be the first contact to be able to make the sale or solve a problem, and to reflect a high quality customer service. Since I was a young girl, I have always been very friendly. This has opened many doors to me at school and work. Whether I was a students council representative at my high school in Ecuador, an orientation leader at college in New York, or a community relations liaison for the Government of Ecuador in the United States, I have and will always enjoy the interaction with people. I find no problem answering even the most trivial questions and I get a deep sense of satisfaction when solving problems or helping customers out in one way or another.
